SEED STARTING BASICS

Let us know you'll be attending

Join Master Gardener and Madison Extension horticulture volunteer, Katie Hartman-Grohn to learn all you need to know about starting garden plants from seed.  Whether you are interested in learning how to start flower, vegetable, or native plant seeds, Katie will cover the basics including:

  • what to look for when purchasing seeds
  • timing of seed starting
  • containers and soil to use
  • light, water, temperature, and fertilizer needs
  • thinning, hardening off, and transplanting
  • what, why, and how of cold stratification
